    Default Time Line?

    I don't suppose anyone has created a helpful "Time Line" of lore events for us?

    I know it's a bit of a challenge with the Guardians beginning in the "past" (and subsequently leaping 20 years ahead to the "present") and with the Defiant beginning in the "future" (and then leaping back ...how many years? to the "present")...

    But, it'd be nice to be able to look in one place and see things such as "The factions split into fighting and became "The Guardians and The Defiant" at this place in history", etc.

    The most comprehensive timeline I've seen is on Telarapedia: http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Timeline

    That is pretty cool, but it makes me realize something... It seems most of the real action is happening within the span of one lifetime?!?!

    Between the defiant / guardian split to what we on the defiant side perceive as the "future" we wake up to... unless ascendants do not age, sounds like this all happens within what, a 50 year span or so?

    The one at Rift Junkies, while a bit of a PITA to navigate, is awesome for taking a stab at actual years between everything.

    There aren't a lot of actual dates, so the wiki timeline is a bit incomplete. Most of the RJ one is pure speculation. Unless I'm wrong, there is like one actual date, for when Jostyr died... You can make guess dates up and get a rough idea of a possible chronological order though.

    Looking at the wiki dates I think people have taken some liberty with dates as well. How do we know '40,000 years' and things like that? It just says stuff like 'millenia' in the various lore released so far.

    It does seem as if Ascendants are indeed ageless, pseudo-immortals.

    Okay, here is the merged timeline between RJ's project and what Telarapedia already had up (because they've got a bit of a clearer text based format!), since the creative content team is more likely to answer here. It would be nice if we could get some indication of the accuracy of the dates given - even if you can't be extremely specific, if these are within a like 1000 - 2500 years, could you let us know?

    Age of Legend (40,000 years before game starting events)

    * Millenia ago[1]: The Vigil created Telara from a mass of sourcestone.[2]
    * Tavril creates the Elves.[2]
    * Bahralt the crafter God creates the Dwarves from the spirits that assisted his creation.[3]

    Arrival of the Humans (-19,000 years before game starting events)

    * Humans are created by all the gods of the Vigil and appear in Tavra.[4]
    * Humans develop civilization with the help of the Elves.[4]
    * The humans splinter: the Eth venture south, and the Mathosians venture north and found the Mathosian Empire.[4]

    Age of Dragons / Blood Storm War (1000 - 500 years before game starting events)

    * The Blood Storm arrive at Telara in dragon form, causing extensive damage.[2]
    * Crucia of the Blood Storm inflicts damage on the Elves, destroying the High Elven Heart Grove.[1]
    * The lesser gods of the Blood Storm turn against Regulos.[2] (999 years before game starting events)
    * The people of Telara ally against the Blood Storm, catching them off guard.[2]
    * The Shalastiri enter Telara from the Plane of Air and aid the Telarans.[5] (950 years before game starting events)
    * The Eth are the first to befriend the Shalastiri.[5]
    * The Eth discover a means to harness sourcestone as a fuel for their war machines.[6]
    * The Blood Storm gods are imprisoned in the planes.[2]
    * A faction of elves - the Kelari - turn from Tavril.[7]
    * The Vigil help construct the ward to shield Telara from the planes.[2] (505 years before game starting events)

    Formation of the Bahmi and the Ethian Empire

    * The Shalastiri settle in the Rhaza'de Canyons and breed with humans, forming a new race, the Bahmi.[5]
    * The Eth apply sourcestone technology to their daily lives.[6]
    * The Dragonslayer Covenant is formed primarily from Eth and Bahmi, to keep watch over the dragon cults.[8]
    * The Vigil demand that the Eth abandon sourcestone technology.[6] (450 years before game starting events)
    * The Eth refuse, and found the powerful Ethian empire.[6]
    * Sourcestone technology fall into the hands of the dragon cultists.[6] (440 years before game starting events)
    * The Eth Empire collapses.[6]
    Mathosian Civil War / Shade War (69 years - 60 years before game starting events)

    * The Mathosian King Jostir the ancient dies mysteriously.[4]
    * Civil war between Jostir's sons Aedraxis and Zareph ravages the northern half of Telara.[4]
    * The Dragonslayer Covenant uncovers evidence that Aedraxis is dealing with the Endless Court.[8]
    * Orphiel Fairwind, leader of the Dragonslayer Covenant, sends Asha Catari to warn Zareph.[8]
    * Aedraxis resorts to magic that fractures the ward and pulls the Plane of Death over Telara.[4]
    * Most of the Mathosians homeland is destroyed in the Shade.[4]
    * Aedraxis turns into an undead and is crowned king as the elder son.[4]
    * The Dragonslayer Covenant lose most of their number defending Telara from the Plane of Death.[8]
    * Asha Catari dies fighting alongside Zareph.[8]
    * Aedraxis his followers flee north.[4]
    * Zareph and his followers flee the shade and found Port Scion.[4] (60 years prior to game starting events)
    * The remnants of the Dragonslayer Covenant join the Mathosians at Port Scion.[8]
    * The Bahmi arrive at Port Scion and raise the city's walls.[5]

    Roots of the Defiant-Guardian schism

    * Orphiel begins investigating the remnants of Eth technology.[8]
    * Orphiel's philosophy that Eth technology should rise again gains a following.[8]
    * The first Ascendants return, Orphiel's following dwindles.[8]
    * Orphiel and his remaining followers leave Port Scion.[8]
    * Orphiel finds ancient Eth sourcestone machines in the Shadowlands and powers them back up.[8]
    * Asha Catari is the first Defiant ascendant brought back by the sourcestone machines.[8]

    Fall of Port Scion and aftermath (30 years prior to game starting events)

    * Zareph was lost.[8]
    * The Guardians establish themselves in Sanctum[9] and demand that the sourcestone machines not be used.[8]
    * Orphiel and his followers refuse to comply, and establish themselves in Meridian in Freemarch.[8]

    I agree. I find it annoying to slide it this way and that.

    The Covenant of Telara - TIMELINE that we worked up was difficult. We had to pour through a ton of material, both old and new. There is a lot we decided to leave out from when the HoT website became RIFT. We had to filter old from new, but we think it's very accurate at matching the info that is now presented. Still to this day lore is being rehashed and rewritten, so we have to be careful. An example of some of those changes we had to deal with are things such as ... The shadowlands ... back stories on dragons ... When and where the Ward was fractured ... Orphiel's timeline ... etc.

    We stopped at "Current Time" - we still need to double check a few items in game. It will be updating in the next week, after CB5. After that, it will be updated as regular as possible.

    It's all fun stuff !!!
    Hope you guys like it !!!

    Ooooh. I really like the list of the various races' most recent events. Makes it a lot easier for someone looking just at racial history for character ideas.
