Back in my EQ days I played a raiding druid. I really enjoyed the druid because I could heal the raid, or DPS the boss, depending on what the raid needed, AND COULD SWITCH MID FIGHT between these roles when the situation called. I couldn't heal as well as clerics, and couldn't damage as well as a wizard, but I could do both. In effect, a support role. Rift however got me confuse. Though there are only 4 callings, each of these callings have many different sub classes and most can do DPS.

My question is, which of these sub classes can do the most DPS even though they have crap gears (because I'm just going to start playing this game so I don't have good gears yet) and at the same time have a very easy time soloing questing leveling farming.

I'm guessing it's between rogues and mages but I don't know which sub classes to take in these to for me to become a mean DPS machine.

Is it hunteR? marksman? assassin? Nightblade? Blade dancer? Harbinger? pyromancer? etc

I decided to go with Pyromancer as the main soul and I'm having fun with it so far. The other two souls I chose are Elementalist and Harbinger.

I enjoy questing solo. Will these souls be ok for leveling? Do I have to use Chloro instead of Harbinger to solo quest? So far I seem to be doing OK but I'm still very low level (below level 20).

Also, my little Lesser Earth Elemental... is there a cap on how high he can level up? I remember from playing before that these little guys were only useful up to a certain level and after that you had to spend a lot of points in the Elemental tree to be able to summon max level pets. I like him for tanking and he helps keep my Pyro alive. But I don't want to have to put a lot of points into Ele that I could be putting into one of the other two trees.

And finally, I've just taken gathering professions for my character. Is there an actual crafting profession that is useful at high levels? Is it better to just farm mats to sell or to actually work on leveling a crafting profession? And if so, which one is considered the most useful for a mage?

I prefer classes that are good at soloing (a balance of damage and survivability) and don't really prefer pets but am willing to try them out if it's the only option.

I'm not looking for something that can go around soloing equal level major rifts (though that would definitely interest me) with this playstyle, I just want something that can handle minor rifts/invasions and an elite or two without having to run around a lot (whether to chase an enemy or kite).

I have a feeling it's going to be mage as warrior seems to have to kite a lot and while rogue does have some range via its soul options, I do not know if it will have the survivability along with that range, whereas mage has the option of pets as well as decent survivability via chloro.

I don't normally make posts to ask for guidance in choosing a class, but with Rift I find the amount of souls (and their different strengths) overwhelming at the very least. The only thing I have to offer to help is my history of play styles and interests in RPGs. I apologize if I ramble on for too long or you find this post annoying. =x

I'm going to make two characters, but one of them is decided on for the most part because my friends want me to tank for our little group in dungeons and such. Most likely, that will be the warrior since I enjoyed it during beta (However if you like the tank souls from Rogue / Cleric, I'm more than open to hear about it, it's just hard to wrap my head around)

The hard part is the class I want to play for myself when I'm alone and just hanging out.

I've played a lot of MMOs and I've found that I have a strange addiction to buffs. I can't get enough of them. I tend to be that guy that sits in town and buffs everyone he can find who doesn't have any buffs. I love to help people out with buffs and I find it's a great way to meet people on the side. I could list off every game that I tried to achieve this in but it would be embarrassing... so, I know it's odd but yeah - I've tried to do research but I can't seem to wrap my head around which class has the most buffs (also, buffs that can be given to other players/parties mainly).

On the secondary aspect of this, I also want said buffer to be able to heal, which usually leads me to my problem with most games (Except for this one!) which is playing a healer / buffer and being able to solo level effectively.

This is the primary reason I came to the forum. Because with the amount of souls, and ability to respec (is there a multi-spec system?) I know there has got to be the perfect calling/set of souls for me, I'm just not smart enough to figure it out on my own.

*Oh, and one final note: I don't plan to Raid (Unless I find myself with the time/ability to do so) so the choices don't have to revolve around "Raid Effectiveness". But I do plan to spend time on the side trying to heal and support people in PvP battlegrounds, so that would be a plus but also not 100% important in the choices.*

I hope I've been able to provide enough information to help you figure out what direction to point me in. I was thinking warrior: tempest/???/??? what else if tempest is viable for pvp
cleric: druid/cab/sent i rolled one today pretty good so far but die pretty quick so far
rogue: mm/tactician if thats any good
mage: habringer/chloro and whatever goes well on the last slot but i hear there really shuishy.

Just looking for a good pvp and pve class thats not insanely shuishy and does some good damage.
